Your computer can “moonlight” to help climate change prediction.

Modern home computers can perform billions of calculations a second, but most of us only use a small percentage of this power. You can now offer your unused computing potential to the distributed computing projects run by the Oxford University, the BBC, climateprediction.net and others. They plan to have the most ambitious climate modeling experiment by using thousands of our regular home computers to match or exceed the power of a supercomputer.
Distributed computing involves using software that runs in the background of your computer. It networks thousands of individual computers together into one huge hive-like computer. Climate prediction requires fantastic amounts of computing resources – and you can help meet a real need. Don’t worry, you won’t be assimilated unless you want to be! Here is a good explanation and information on the project.
