Waterless Clothes Washing of the Future?
From Electrolux design studios comes the KaionWave washing system – a prototype, concept piece that uses ultraviolet-C light for cleaning nano-coated fabrics. Don’t think you have any nano-coated fabrics? Don’t worry, some guess that the nano-coated fabric will be the durable and stain-resistant fabric of the future. Although, it may be a bit of a wait if the dearth of information from a cursory Google search is any indication. Shame this isn’t available right now, it would look awesome in our basement. Here is a link to more info at Appliancist.com
Here is another concept washer from Electrolux. Appliancist.com states it is “The concept makes use of the age-old methods of cleaning clothes: washing, spinning and sun-baking, and combines them all into a compact and stylish unit. This solar unit simulates the washing power of afternoon sunshine and the ability of Mother Nature to clean clothing.” Sounds great but I am having a hard time understanding where the sunshine gets let in and what will it do when it gets there? Why do the people of the future always get to have all the fun!
One last concept washer. A waterless washing machine that removes stains from garments in a few minutes has been developed by students at the National University of Singapore. The appliance uses negative ions, compressed air and deodorants to clean clothes. Here is a good article at worldchanging.com about it and another photo to give a better scale. Wonder how long before we are able to get this? I am not sure how its suppossed to work but if all you do is throw your clothes over it when you get home from work and it cleans it in a few minutes – I am saving my pennies now!

This stuff is interesting, but there is something out there right now that is about 100 times as energy efficient as conventional clothes dryers- spin dryers, such as at http://www.laundry-alternative.com
